Sound Devices
- Onomatopoeia represents words that imitate sounds associated with the objects or actors they refer to. In the poems chosen, you will see the words that are represented by this are in purple.
- Consonance is the repetition of final consonant sounds. The words do not have the same vowel sound in the middle. For ex.: In the poems chosen, the words representing this will be in the color blue.
- Exact Rhyme is when words rhyme exactly, just like the name. For example : bat and cat. The color red will represent these.
- The Rhyme Scheme is the arrangement of rhymes in a poem or stanza. You will be given the rhyme scheme of each of the poems chosen. Free Verse will be when nothing rhymes in the poem.
- Slant Rhyme uses assonance and consonance only. It doesn't rhyme exactly but it is close enough. For example : heart and dark. To represent these the color will be green.
- Alliteration is the repetition of initial identical consonant sounds in accented syllables. To represent these the color will be pink.
